The cargo division of Qatar Airways Group, known as Qatar Airways Cargo, has allegedly discontinued its last Boeing 747-8F cargo plane and shifted its emphasis to the twin-engine 777F freighter, which will include the upcoming 777-8F scheduled for delivery in 2027.
Liesbeth Oudkerk, Senior Vice President of Cargo Sales and Network Planning at Qatar Airways Cargo, revealed the airline's choice to focus on the 777F operations during a panel discussion at Cargo Facts EMEA in Amsterdam. However, there was still one Boeing 747-8F in Qatar Airways Cargo's fleet. It was registered as A7-BGB and it was part of flight QR8941 that took place on February 12 from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to Doha Hamad International Airport. It had previously taken a flight from DOH to CAN, according to Flightradar24 records.
In the United States, the other 747-8F, registered as A7-BGA, has already undergone re-registration. As of February 9, A7-BGA, which has the manufacturer serial number (MSN) 37564, is registered as N634UP under Boeing Aircraft Holdings, according to records from the Federal Aviation Administration.
A7-BGA was moved from DOH to Victorville Southern California Logistics Airport on February 1 and has stayed there ever since, according to flight tracking data. However, the US regulator's records indicate that N634UP's accreditation is only temporary, and it expires on March 10.
Nevertheless, despite Boeing having completed the last delivery of this model more than a year ago, UPS's most recent Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing shows that two Boeing 747-8F aircraft are still on order.
Boeing delivered the final Boeing 747-8F to Atlas Air on January 31, 2023. Atlas Air will fly the four-engine aircraft for Kuehne+Nagel subsidiary Apex Logistics.
In addition to its two Boeing 747-8Fs, Qatar Airways also possesses two 2015-arrived Boeing 747-400Fs that it wet-leased from Turkey-based AirACT, according to ch-aviation statistics.
Qatar Airways declared in January 2022 that it would be the first buyer of the Boeing 777-8F, a freighter built on the 777X's smaller version. This meant switching 20 of its 60 777X family orders to 777F, with the first 777-8 expected to be delivered in 2027.
Together with an agreement for up to 50 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, Qatar Airways placed orders for a total of 50 777-8Fs, consisting of 34 firm orders and 16 options. In May 2023, the airline started using Boeing 737 MAX 8s, which were originally meant for Russia's S7 Airlines.
At the July 2022 Farnborough International Airshow, Qatar Airways placed an order for 25 Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft; however, no delivery date was given. As of right now, Boeing has not certified the 737 MAX 7 or MAX 10.
