With effect from April, British Airways will be making major changes to its Executive Club frequent flyer program. A single points collecting year will take the place of the existing system, which keeps track of flights and Avios point accumulation based on each member's registration date. This change will take place over the course of the following 15 months to provide every member the opportunity to maintain their current status and earn more points at the end of their current membership year.
The airline guaranteed its members that the procedure for obtaining Tier status will not alter throughout the shift. Any status that is obtained during this period will be good for at least a year. According to British Airways, these changes are meant to improve operational efficiency.
"By aligning all members to the same Tier Point Collection Year, this change will simplify the journey for members of the Executive Club, making it easier for them to manage their travel plans for themselves, their colleagues and their families."
With these changes, the program will align with the fiscal year of the United Kingdom as well as other significant loyalty programs, including Iberia, which are part of the IAG group.
All participants' Tier Point Collection Years will be shortened beginning in April and will end on March 31, 2025. The Club will evaluate each member's standing for the following membership year by looking backwards over the entire 12-month period that concluded on March 31st. The airline intends to offer an Executive Club member a Tier Point Adjustment, combining status obtained during the abbreviated collecting period with that achieved over the full year, in order to synchronise deadlines.
For example, until February 8th, 2025, passengers whose current collection year is reset this month will continue as usual. The next collecting period, which will fall in line with the introduction of the new system, will run from February 9th to March 31st, 2025. To be clear, the airline said, "We'll add on any Tier points you accrue between April 1, 2024, and February 8, 2025, in order to ascertain your Tier standing." For passengers whose membership years expire before May, the same procedure is followed.
All members' collection years will begin in May and run normally through the end of the current period. The next shortened year will end on March 31, 2025. In order to assess status, the computer will then add any points earned between April 1st of the current year and the end of the current collection period. On its website, British Airways has detailed the procedure for Club members who are scheduled to renew in October, as well as details for the next eleven months:
1.As of right now, your current Tier Point Collection Year will run until October 8, 2024.
2.October 9, 2024 - March 31, 2025 will be your next collecting period.
3.Tier Point Adjustment: In order to calculate your Tier status, we'll add any Tier Points you earn between April 1 and October 8, 2024.
4.During the transition period, any Tier status you may have obtained will expire on April 30, 2026.
The new membership card expiration date of April 30, 2026, will coincide with the new status's validity period. Beginning on May 1, 2025, passengers will experience downgrades if they do not earn enough Tier Points to keep their status.
